Mission

Galeria Nuno Centeno was founded by Nuno Centeno in 2007, initially under the name Reflexus Contemporary Art, located in a residential house, in Porto. The gallery’s cultural impact quickly created a rapid growth in visibility and recognition, leading to its expansion and relocation to larger premises, in 2009.
In 2011, the name was altered to Galeria Nuno Centeno, as we know it today. That same year, the gallery began representing a group of emerging and established international artists. In recent years, Nuno Centeno has founded and directed the Artist Book Gallery (a project dedicated to one-off artist books) and co-founded The Spot (an outdoor project).
Today, the gallery is a key institution for the cultural environment of Porto, given its international recognition and representation of over 30 artists from different nationalities and practices around the globe.

The space

Galeria Nuno Centeno is located at the Cooperativa dos Pedreiros complex at Rua da Alegria, Porto. The history of these stonemasons’ cooperative headquarters dates back to 1914, known for constructing some of Porto’s iconic buildings, such as the S. Bento Train Station and Porto’s City Hall.
The structure we find ourselves in, now, used to serve as a working station, where blocks of stone, such as granite and marble, would be cut to measure with carved ornaments. Although maintaining some of its original characteristics, the space has undergone various transformations, projected by the architect André Gonçalves, to adapt this former warehouse into the gallery we know today.
The space offers various exhibiting areas, in addition to a Video Room and The Cave Project Space – designated for the showcase of artistic projects

White Box

One of the most important spaces in the gallery, measuring 144 square meters.

Video Room

A space dedicated to showcasing video art and films, often complementing the gallery’s lineup.

The Cave Project Space

The gallery’s most distinctive exhibition space. Its granite walls reveal the history of the building where the gallery is now located.
