The artworks chosen for this exhibition were made in Brussels, London, São Paulo, Cologne, Berlin, Los Angeles, Glasgow and at last in Porto. What it would happen if Art wasn’t a unifier element in a world where conservativism, xenophobia and all forms of prejudgement and darkness fortify – fact obviously settled by the financial crises and fear.
Through the tension between the humor and political issues Costa exposes the complex variables of the cultural value systems on objects. The tragic irony of Costa’s work invite(s)? us to think about the real value of works of art and the artist’s importance, specifically it’s importance in the contemporary art metier. The profound aversion with any type of academic or stablished order is one of the artist beloved exercises. When Costa places a toaster as a security camera, comedy is present as well as the announcement of hideous tragedies to.
ROCKWHORESHOW takes as reference the Jim Sharman’s musical title, replacing Horror for WHORE. Here the idea is to touch the artists delicate importance in the South Hemisphere and its unexpected demands, not responded by Costa. The Brazilian people and its famous warmth, as a sexual subservient behaviour, is in this exhibition exposed and murdered but the artist. As said by Adriano: “the brazilian people are petty and religious and its sexual-homo-transphobic, misogynistic and racist politics don’t reflect the Garota de Ipanema’s grace. We’re in Middle Ages!”. The current tragic and comic, semi-facist brazilian politic overview is in here mirrored in the artist’s view by the use of materials in clear decomposition and obsolete electronic devises meticulously painted and aligned as if they had any importance (or if they really overawe the viewer). The feedback of a dictatorial system chosen by the right of the brazilian people, and it’s hounds, it’s just like that. The one that doesn’t believe in its violent and bloody power is fooling himself. Art, Culture and any form of thinking against President Jair Bolsonaro ism, as we’ve already seen, are the first victims. That the world stays alert!”.
