Galeria Nuno Centeno is happy to present the premier of A Silent Film, by David Bonneville.
David Bonneville (1978) was born in Porto and holds a Catholic University of Portugal BA Sound and Image, a DFFB Berlin Film Academy / Gulbenkian Foundation Film directing diploma and a University of Westminster MA Screenwriting. David started making video art when he lived in Barcelona – Maquette (2005) is “an irony about cinema itself, that is, about the possibility of catching the truth”, wrote Art Critic Paulo Cunha e Silva at its Canvas Art Gallery exhibition. The Balcony (2007) screened at Teatro do Campo Alegre, and as a video installation at Casa do Conto. Éden (2009), presents a Portuguese Adam and Eve in Monsanto Park, and premiered at the FUSO video art festival.
His fictional short films Heiko, L’Arc-em-Ciel and Gypsy explore the themes of libido, mourning and repressed drives. His feature film The Last Bath explores these concerns in more depth, winning the Academy Sophia Awards for Best Film, Best Original Screenplay and Best Art Direction, as well as the Golden Globe for Best Actress. The film garnered more than 40 awards in 14 countries – from Vancouver to Casablanca, including Rome, Paris and Oslo.
Retrospectives of his work were screened at the Seoul Art Cinema (South Korea); Quest Europe (Poland); IDEM (Spain); Selar Cinema (UK); LFF, Biennale Cinema Leiria; Portuguese Cinematheque; and in the upcoming December at Batalha Cinema Centre.
