‘forno diurno/embora nocturno’ is a collaborative exhibition by the artists Maria Capelo and Pedro Paiva.

Announced in:

24 September, 2026

Running:

26 September – 14 November, 2026

Galeria Nuno Centeno is gearing up to open a collaborative exhibition between represented artist, Maria Capelo, and Pedro Paiva.
forno diurno/embora nocturno will occupy the entirety of the gallery. Both artists intertwine their practices based on cinematic, literary and philosophical references, through Capelo’s distinct landscapes and Paiva’s clay sculptural works.

Maria Capelo (b.1970) presents large-scale oil paintings and several new series of Indian ink drawings. Her landscapes incorporate elements derived of her deepest visual memory of mountains, hills, trails, and trees, in a vibrant color palette.
Capelo was born in Lisbon, Portugal where she still lives and works. Her artworks are included among several collections, such as Coleção de Arte Contemporânea do Estado (Portugal), Coleção de Arte Moderna e Contemporânea Norlinda and José Lima (Portugal), Coleção de Arte da Fundação EDP (Lisbon, Portugal), and Centro de Arte Moderna da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisbon, Portugal).
This is her second exhibition at the gallery, following MAIO NESTE INVERNO.

In addition to sculpting, Pedro Paiva (b. 1977) showcases experimental video installations that come to fruition by working with obsolete analogue systems such as 16mm and slide projections.
He represented Portugal at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009. His work has been included in a variety of museum collections across the globe, notably: Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid, Spain), MACBA (Barcelona, Spain), Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), Tate Modern (London, United Kingdom), SFMOMA (California, United States of America), Philadelphia Museum of Art (Pennsylvania, United States of America), Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (Monaco) and the Serralves Museum (Porto, Portugal).

forno diurno/embora nocturno opens September 26th, at 9pm, running until November 14th, 2026.
